Did You Know?
Marsh experimented with two versions of this composition, creating different images on both sides of this sheet.Description
Reginald Marsh was known for depicting the seedier side of New York during the early 20th century. This drawing shows a sailor leaning over a young woman in the back of a carriage while riding through Central Park. Their driver slumps in his seat, entirely disinterested in what transpires behind him. Marsh revisited the drawing two years later, creating a variation on the sheet’s reverse side.- Kennedy Galleries, New York, NY2002-2018James and Hanna Bartlett, Lincoln, MADecember 3, 2018the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH
