Description

The bullock cart, an ancient and once prevalent means of transportation in India, is still widely used in rural areas today. Here, a driver and his staff wait for a passenger. This occupational image, created by British colonial photographers for European audiences, offered armchair travelers a European view of local Indian life and customs.
