Architects, graphic designers, painters, interior designers, carpenters, electricians, art handlers: it takes a small army of people to create the presentation of the museum’s special exhibitions as well as to design and install the works of the museum’s permanent collections in the galleries. The skills needed are varied and specialized, and many of the talents and resources are found in the museum’s Collections Management and Design and Architecture departments. Often, these internal teams are supplemented by a cadre of local, national, and international contractors. But it is always a highly detailed, skilled, often frenetic, and wonderfully creative process that takes a curator’s idea for an exhibition or gallery and brings it to life in a dramatic, exciting, and enjoyable experience for our visitors.
