Pick the brain of award-winning British filmmaker Phil Grabsky [2] whose accolades include first prize at the Valladolid International Film Festival, and the Gold Hugo in Chicago for Best Film, Best Cinematography and Best Editing. He'll be at CMA on September 30 to introduce his film In Search of Beethoven [3]and answer questions after the screening (film shows at 2 & 6 p.m.).

Grabsky and his company Seventh Art Productions [4], based out of Brighton in East Sussex, England, has directed, written and produced many documentaries. One of his best known films is The Boy Who Plays on the Buddhas of Bamiyan [5]. This film documents the life of a young boy and his family living in post-Taliban Afghanistan. To date it has won 11 awards. Grabsky also works in television, producing the BBC series Tim Marlow on... [6]which takes viewers through art exhibitions with art historian, Tim Marlow.

Grabsky also has an interest in classical music, writing and directing In Search of Mozart [7] and it's follow-up, screening at CMA, In Search of Beethoven.  Both documentaries are the first ever feature-length films about the composers.

Currently, Grabsky and co-director David Bickerstaff have just completed Half Life: A Journey to Chernoby [8] which commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.

Grabsky has also written four books and is a judge for film awards including BAFTA (The British Academy of Film and Television Arts), the Emmys, One World and RTS (Royal Television Society).
