Sunday, February 20, 2005 to Sunday, May 29, 2005

The centerpiece of this exhibition was Auguste Renoir's Luncheon of the Boating Party, a masterpiece that rarely travels outside The Phillips Collection. The show also included works by Paul Cézanne, Gustave Courbet, Honoré Daumier, Edgar Degas, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Klee, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, George Braque, Wassily Kandinsky, and Henri Matisse, among others. Earlier works by El Greco, Chardin, Delacroix, and Ingres added to the comprehensive examination of the evolution of modern art. In the show, five works by Van Gogh, Degas, Braque, and Odilon Redon were hung adjacent to similar compositions by the same artists in the Cleveland Museum of Art's collection, providing a unique opportunity for the visitor to compare these remarkable pictures.
