Home > Shiva: A Recent Acquisition

Sunday, June 24, 2007 to Sunday, January 13, 2008

Shiva as Brahma, the museum's most recent addition to its collection of Indian art, portrays one of the principal Hindu deities as the omnipotent god who destroys the universe to recast it in a more perfect form. This representation of Shiva as Brahma joins other manifestations of this powerful god in the museum's collection, from Shiva as Nataraja, the King of Dance, to Shiva as Tripuravijaya, Victor of the Three Cities. This exquisite recent acquisition broadens the scope of the museum's holdings of Shiva in his multiple forms.
