Spaghetti Western maestro Sergio Leone co-directed this action-packed “sword and sandal” epic inspired by the 1834 Edward Bulwer-Lytton novel that also lent its name to the Cleveland Museum of Art’s current exhibition. Muscleman Steve Reeves plays a Roman centurion from Pompeii who discovers that his father has been murdered by a gang of hooded thieves. Angry, he vows to unmask the killers and avenge his dad’s death. Meanwhile Mt. Vesuvius prepares to blow its own top…

Italy/Spain, 1959, 103 min.
