Artists convey moments in time, feelings, ideas, and stories through their artworks. In this workshop, we’ll explore techniques for using works in the museum collection to spark your students’ creativity and to explore the elements of language arts. Workshop content is most appropriate for educators of pre-K through first-grade students, but teachers of other age levels are welcome. Workshop registration includes parking.

Coils: Shapes, Forms, and Surfaces (in partnership with the Cleveland Institute of Art) 
Tuesday, July 30–Thursday, August 1, 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

Coil-building isn't just for elementary school! Explore how this process has been used for centuries to create sophisticated vessels. See examples of coil-built artworks from many cultures and time periods. Spend time in the studio discovering basic coil-rolling, extrusion, decoration, and once-firing. Then, explore applications for the classroom you can use with your own students. The workshop is open to educators of all skill levels as well as art teachers who are potters and sculptors.

This three day workshop will take place on the campuses of both CIA and CMA. Participants may be eligible to receive college credit from Ashland University for and additional fee.
