As we look toward the 2012 museum celebration on the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., we reflect on two works in our collection.
When the snowy days approach and inclement weather beckons for indoor activities, consider bringing the family to visit our permanent collection. Go on a hunt through our galleries for paintings that have snow. Each painting can spark fun discussion about the content and context of the work. For older children, the discussion could evolve into a research project about the artist.
It’s never too early to gain experience in a field of interest, especially as a high school student. For Aaron, Jake, Patrick, and Leah, tenth grade students at Trinity High School, they are getting a head start on their careers by interning in the museum’s curatorial department every Thursday for the entire school year.
The museumpresents the 18th annual Winter Lights Lantern Festival on view now through January 16. The lanterns are displayed outside on Wade Oval, inside the museum, and for the first time, on the new east wing terrace. Inspired by cross-cultural ceremonial lighting traditions, the community arts festival is a seasonal museum celebration.
If the one constant in life is change it certainly holds true that at the Cleveland Museum of Art there is always something new to see, particularly now during the exciting expansion project. One of the museum’s goals is to create exhibitions and collections that are relevant and inspirational to its patrons and to do so in a way that makes each visit to the museum fresh and vibrant.
