For the third installment of our Five Questions series, we spoke with Tom Catalioti, the museum’s director of facilities. Catalioti has been with the museum since 1976!
Q: What groups make up the museum’s facilities department?
A: The facilities department includes custodial, engineering, grounds, and building maintenance needs. As the director of facilities, I oversee these groups.
So much goes on behind the scenes at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Our new web site lets online visitors explore areas of the museum that are not always visible to the public and meet some of the people who give generously of their time to help ensure that everyone’s museum visit is a great one.

The Cleveland Museum of Art is now just a little more than a month away from reaching another exciting milestone in our building expansion and renovation project. In February, we’ll celebrate the reopening of Gartner Auditorium, ushering in a new era for our VIVA! & Gala performing arts series.
If you haven’t been hiding underneath a rock you’ll know that this past year has been a really exciting one for the museum. We opened up the East Wing with a fantastic party and gave people even more reason to come visit us. We had some really great exhibitions like Friedlander, Art and Power in the Central African Savanna, Streams and Mountains Without End and of course Gauguin: Paris, 1889. And, most recently, we got the okay to go ahead with another phase of our renovation and expansion project (you can read about it
