Mark Reigelmän Returns to the Museum with a Mysterious Installation for This Year’s Summer Solstice Celebration

Cleveland Museum of Art regulars should recognize the name Mark Reigelmän. The New York-based (and Cleveland-bred) artist created the memorable Wood-Pile piece at last year’s Summer Solstice celebration. Reigelmän returns as the mastermind behind this year’s Solstice installation in collaboration with Cleveland Public Art (CPA).

So what exactly should Solstice party-goers look for on Saturday? That’s our little secret! Trust us, you’ll know it when you see it.

On Wednesday, May 12, WCPN’s Around Noon host Dee Perry will lead area college students in a panel discussion at the Cleveland Museum of Art titled “Populating the Future of University Circle.” The free event is open to the public, beginning with a reception at 5 p.m. and program from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the museum’s newly renovated Gartner Auditorium.

Art of the American Indians: The Thaw Collection, which draws from the renowned Native American art collection at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y., is making its traveling debut at the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) before moving to Minneapolis and Indianapolis. Below, Susan Bergh, associate curator for art of the ancient Americas at CMA, talks about the origins of the exhibition and the relationships she developed with members of Cleveland’s Native American community.

This weekend, the Cleveland Museum of Art will debut its first exhibition of Native American art since the 1970s.  Art of the American Indians: The Thaw Collection features 120 masterworks drawn from the renowned Eugene and Clare Thaw Collection at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Northeast Ohio early childhood educators can help their students grow up great through the art of story telling in pictures, song, rhythm and acting by participating in Picture This: Story Telling and the Arts, a mini-conference at the Cleveland Museum of Art from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 1.
