We recently talked to Thomasine Clark of our Education department about how parents might use the museum’s special exhibition as a great adventure for learning and bonding with their children. She helps plan our family day activities to ensure that there is fun for all ages, so who better to share thoughts on how children might enjoy the current exhibition at an age-appropriate level?
By Helen Cherry Guest Blogger As the days grow shorter and darkness descends on us earlier and earlier, head down to the museum to see “Winter’s Whimsical World” in the museum’s lower level lobby. This wonderful guest lantern display filled with imaginary human and animal sculptures was created by 17 Hawken High School art students and their teacher Denise Buckley and will bring a smile to your face and a warm glow to your soul.

Dr. Linda Spurlock discusses the findings
Each year, college students from across the country set out to find internships. This summer, 26 undergraduate and several graduate interns are working throughout the museum to gain experience in their respective fields. (And, hopefully, have fun in the process!)
Alicia Hudson Garr, internship coordinator and associate director of interpretation, says this summer the interns are especially diverse, which reflects the nature of the museum’s program.
Ever wondered what happens in an Art for Parent and Child class? We visited a recent summer session to give an up-close view of what transpires when you combine more than 10 toddlers and their caring adults with the creative classroom of one of the nation's top art museums. Mix in two experienced teachers, and you have an equation that equals time well spent on a Wednesday or Saturday morning.
Welcome learners!
Teachers! Learn how you can reach out to your students using art and story telling.
Northeast Ohio early childhood educators can help their students grow up great through the art of story telling in pictures, song, rhythm and acting by participating in Picture This: Story Telling and the Arts, a mini-conference at the Cleveland Museum of Art from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 1.
One thing all of us can say for certain is the economy is bad. More people are out of work than ever and even though the government promises it will get better it can be hard to believe at times. But good can come out of this kind of hardship. Families become stronger and people learn the value of helping others. And from time to time failure can even lead to success. Such was the case with Gauguin.
