Meet the Museum Staff: 5 questions with Alicia Garr, Associate Director, Department of Interpretation

Alicia Garr has been working at the Cleveland Museum of Art for 16 years, although she began her art-exploration here when she was only eight years old. She started working as a curatorial intern and has since moved on to work as Associate Director, Department of Interpretation. Her story is below.

By Cindy Fink Director of Marketing and Communications Performance and music are a major part of the museum’s annual Summer Solstice Party, this year happening on Saturday, June 25 from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Exciting, eclectic music never stops once it starts at the party, and it’s no easy feat to organize all. So, we caught up with Tom Welsh, who masterfully envisions and secures the performance lineup, to ask him for a bit of insight into his work on the party. Q.

For the third installment of our Five Questions series, we spoke with Tom Catalioti, the museum’s director of facilities. Catalioti has been with the museum since 1976!

Q: What groups make up the museum’s facilities department?
A: The facilities department includes custodial, engineering, grounds, and building maintenance needs. As the director of facilities, I oversee these groups.

 

Those Who Protect Also Create

Here at the CMA we have an outstanding team of guards who work everyday to protect our masterpieces and make sure the art stays in the galleries.  Some of them, however, spend their free time creating art for galleries.  These individuals organized a group called the Cleveland Museum of Art Protection Services Artist Group and they are presenting an exhibition titled Those Who Protect Also Create at the Fairmount Center for the Arts.  The show will be on view through December 11, 2009 and is located at 8400 Fairmount Road in Novelty, O
