Highlights and Exhibition Tours
Explore the special exhibition Yoga: The Art of Transformation with our docents. Exhibition ticket required.
How did we arrive at the image of the yogi as an otherworldly Hindu ascetic, sitting upright, cross-legged, with eyes closed in serene meditation? As she takes you on a tour of the exhibition, Ananya Dasgupta, Assistant Professor of History at Case Western Reserve University, will talk about a lesser-known history of armed ascetics—who were sought-after mercenary soldiers, with extensive networks spanning large swathes of the Indian subcontinent that often made them particularly attractive for purposes of intelligence gathering, and found them employment with Indian princely states and the East India Company alike.
Babies welcome! In fact, you need a baby in tow if you want to join this group. Join us the third Wednesday of each month for a casual and lively discussion led by a museum educator in the galleries - just for parents and caregivers and their pre-toddler age (18 months and younger) children. Expect a special kind of outing that allows for adult conversation where no one minds if a baby lends his or her opinion with a coo or a cry.
