2011 Museum Staff Art Exhibition On View at the Cleveland Museum of Art
Exhibition of 45 works curated by museum director David Franklin
CLEVELAND (November, 2011) – On view at the Cleveland Museum of Art now through November 30, 2011 is an exhibition of museum staff artwork, curated by museum director David Franklin. Representing staff from thirteen museum departments, the exhibition is comprised of 45 objects in a variety of media. This year's show is the first staff exhibition held on museum grounds since 1991.
"It's important to recognize staff talent and the show gives a living presence to the museum," says David Franklin. "Seeing artwork by people we know and admire makes art and the museum more accessible. It will be a great surprise for the public to see the art museum showing work by the old masters and also by these staff artists."
The exhibition includes staff members from Advancement, Collections Management, Conservation, Design and Architecture, Distribution Services, Education, Exhibitions Production, Information Management and Technology Services, Library, Prints and Drawings, Photographic and Digital Imaging, Protection Services, and Visitor Experience. The artwork on view covers a variety of subject matter and showcases numerous types of media, like archival inkjet on paper, acrylic paint on canvas board, enamel on copper, graphite on paper, ink jet print, linocut print, mixed media collage, oil paint on canvas, colored pastel and charcoal on paper, pen and ink, photography, wood carving, and watercolor paint on paper. Nearly half of the artworks have been created in the last two years.
