MIX: Mask on Friday, February 5, 5-9 p.m.

Cleveland (February 3, 2016) Celebrate Mardi Gras and Carnival at MIX: Mask. Check out masks from around the world in the galleries, and see performances about the masks we wear in our lives, inspired by works of art in the CMA collection, by students from the Cleveland Humanities Collaborative. Plus, go hands-on with a mask-themed Art Cart and unleash your creative side when you make your own Mardi Gras-style mask. Stay into the night, and grab a drink with friends while you groove to the sounds of DJ Dongo, spinning New Orleans jazz and Brazilian carnival rhythms.

We Wear the Mask

Inspired by works of art from the CMA collections, individuals share their reflections on the masks we wear in our lives. Join the tour to hear their poems, stories and presentations. Presented in collaboration with the Cleveland Humanities Collaborative Voices from the Village.

The tradition of Mardi Gras masks began when revelers sought ways to hide their identities, so people from all walks of life could celebrate together. Join the festivities by making your own Mardi Gras-inspired mask.

Art Cart: Masks: Around the World
Atrium, 5:00-7:00 PM
Experience hands-on art with the Art Cart, with the chance to handle real works of art from the education art collection. Check out African, Japanese and Native American masks.

MIX: Mask is part of the Cleveland Museum of Art’s MIX at CMA series. On the first Friday of each month, MIX highlights a different aspect of the museum and its collection. Art, music, cocktails; something different every month. MIX is an 18 and over event.
