The Cleveland Museum of Art announces the cancellation of the exhibition Exporting Florence: Donatello to Michelangelo. Interim Director Fred Bidwell and Interim Deputy Director for Collections, Education, and Performing Arts Deborah Gribbon took this action as a result of the resignation of David Franklin, former director of the museum and the organizing curator of the exhibition.

The cancellation will allow a more complete installation in the Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Exhibition Hall of Surrealist Photography: The Raymond Collection, an exhibition already scheduled to open in September 2014. The Cleveland Museum of Art acquired the Raymond collection, considered one of the most important holdings of Surrealist photographs and illustrated books in private hands, in 2007. The exhibition of over 170 works will tell two stories: one of a radical moment in early twentieth-century art and the other of an impassioned collector whose adventurous spirit and vision harmonized perfectly with his subject. Dr. Barbara Tannenbaum, the museum’s curator of photography, is organizing Surrealist Photography; a complete catalog of the Raymond collection will accompany the exhibition.
