UPCOMING EVENTS
Listening Session: Heritage
Friday, February 9, 7:00–8:00 p.m.
FREE; registration required
Atrium
An important theme in the Jarrells’ artwork is music, particularly within the context of African American heritage. Throughout the run of Heritage: Wadsworth and Jae Jarrell, we’ve collected hundreds of songs from visitors who have told us what songs they “hear” when experiencing the artworks. At this program, we’ll use the visitor-generated soundtrack as a point of conversation and storytelling between audience members and a panel that includes Gabe Pollack (Bop Stop at the Music Settlement), Jason J. Rawls (DJ J. Rawls), and Aseelah Shareef (Karamu House). Moderated by Fredara Hadley, visiting assistant professor of ethnomusicology at Oberlin Conservatory. Beats by Brittany Benton (DJ Red-I). Free; ticket required.
Meditation in the Galleries
Saturday, February 10, 11:00 a.m.
$5; advance registration recommended\

George Lewis: Experiments in Art and Music
Saturday, February 17, 3:00 p.m.
Gartner Auditorium
Renowned scholar and composer George Lewis discusses how the black avant-garde used music and art to highlight racial and economic injustice in Chicago between 1965 and 1975. Free; ticket required.
MIX: Expression (Kabarett)
Friday, March 2, 6:00–10:00 p.m.
Graphic Discontent: German Expressionism on Paper profiles the Expressionists’ quest to produce art that was emotionally authentic just as Europe erupted into a devastating world war. The Expressionists frequented Berlin’s dynamic dance halls and cabarets, where they were inspired by the celebratory atmosphere and the performances that poked fun at legitimate theater. Here, class distinctions fell away in the pursuit of pleasure, and performers and patrons enjoyed freedom from society’s social and sexual conventions. Join us as WizBang, Cleveland’s illegitimate theatre, stages a night of dancing, kabarett, and cocktails in the spirit of Expressionist Berlin.
MIX at CMA is sponsored by Great Lakes Brewing Company and PNC Bank.
