A vertically oriented oil painting in thick brushstrokes depicts a man with light skin and white hair looking through glasses at an open book. He wears a long pink coat over a light vest, breeches, and stockings. To our left stand large, paneled wooden doors, and a bookshelf emerges from the dark background. A small table with a quill sits to our right, and a book rests on the foreground floor.
