Description

This balustrade, or railing, was probably intended for use in a private house, perhaps to set off a bed alcove.
A dark-brown walnut carving depicts two railing sections with rows of turned posts featuring bulbous centers. Large rectangular blocks at the outer ends show relief carvings of swirling foliage. On either side of the rows, upright supports are carved into human figures. The wood is polished to a smooth finish, highlighting the deep, warm grain across the horizontal railings and the thick base below.
