Description

Seated in typical female posture, this figurine probably represents an Aztec goddess or ritual impersonator. She wears a monster headdress, but her costume is simple, making specific identification difficult.
A polished, mottled green jadeite figurine depicts a kneeling woman. Her head features wide-set eyes, a broad nose, and lips pressed in a straight line. A headdress of horizontal bands and a row of rounded curls sits across her forehead. She rests her hands against her chest above a wide, rounded base. The stone surface displays a speckled texture of light and dark green mineral inclusions throughout the carved form.
