Description

The work of Robert Adams generally balances two seemingly contradictory concerns: photography's ability to describe natural beauty and human intervention in the landscape. In this image, nature has been reduced to a small, desolate area of dry wild grass, while suburban homes and pavement encroach upon what was once an expansive prairie. Adams rarely portrays people in his photographs, focusing instead on eloquent signs of their presence, such as the abandoned swing set.
