Tanabe, a Canadian of Japanese descent, studied painting
and calligraphy in Japan in the early 1960s. He lives near
Vancouver, its beautiful landscape the subject for the great
majority of his paintings and prints. Tanabe works with the
master block cutter and printer Masato Arikushi who helps
him create woodcuts remarkable in their subtlety, richness
of color, and technical perfection.
