Aquatint
Sheet: 87.9 x 71.7 cm (34 5/8 x 28 1/4 in.)
Gift of Joel Stewart in honor of his parents 2000.117
Attracted to the surface textures and shapes of Japanese pottery, Joel Stewart heightens the viewer's experience by portraying pots in iconic formats, oversized to fill the entire composition. His love of watercolor is revealed in his prints such as "Moonstone", in which fluid washes of aquatint are used to describe the mottled exterior of a large vessel.
