When there is a breadth of offerings available such as there is at the Cleveland Museum of Art, it can be intimidating to know where to begin your visit and what your options are. Did you know we have free live music in the atrium or galleries every week? Did you know there are daily free tours on a wide range of topics? Did you know down the hall from our café is a contemporary restaurant and lounge that features locally sourced and globally inspired cuisine and a prix-fixe menu that complements current museum exhibitions? Thanks to our new digital signage wall, you now can.
In November 2024, the Cleveland Museum of Art officially opened our doors to a renovated north lobby that features a brand new, beautifully designed, large-scale digital signage wall. This high-performance video wall showcases the full spectrum of the CMA’s offerings—from mesmerizing motion graphics and breathtaking 3-D views of iconic artworks to dynamic updates on exhibitions, events, and more. Coming in at around 20 feet long and seven feet wide, the brilliant video wall masterfully blends digital innovation with the lobby’s historic Breuer architecture to harmoniously intertwine the museum’s past and future.
Designing for Impact at Every Scale
The content designed for the 20-x-seven-foot Planar LED video wall communicates effectively at multiple distances, drawing in passersby while offering deeper details for those who stop. Concise content, paired with QR codes, ensures visitors can quickly comprehend information. Integration with the museum’s website CMS enables automated updates on exhibitions, events, and tours with minimal staff effort, while customizable templates let staff highlight special initiatives and announcements.
Bold, Flexible Design
The flexible, adaptive design combines bold, clear templates with animated geometric transitions inspired by the architecture, keeping the screen fresh and engaging. The templates present key information at a glance, helping visitors quickly identify programming of interest while accommodating a range of text lengths and image sizes.
Bringing Art to Life
Animating 3-D imagery of art objects draws visitors’ attention, invites them to look closer, and sets an engaging, immersive tone. This digital signage solution celebrates the collection and enhances the visitor experience by making essential information accessible, visually compelling, and always current.
Fully Integrated with the Backend
The sign’s content is entirely connected to the CMA’s website and Collection Online. This ensures that the content is continually updating with dynamic info on events and exhibitions and is always up to date and identical to what we share on the website.
Created by the CMA’s digital innovations team in collaboration with the experience design firm Bluecadet and audio/video integrator Zenith Systems, and with the generous support of Planar, the brilliant video wall masterfully blends digital innovation with the lobby’s historic architecture to harmoniously intertwine the museum’s past and future.
