One of the most exciting young ensembles in chamber music today, the Calder Quartet return to Cleveland for the first in an ongoing series of performances in the Transformer Station beginning Wednesday, November 19. Called “outstanding” and “superb” by the New York Times, the quartet perform a broad range of repertoire at an exceptional level.

Visitors to the Transformer Station’s crane gallery this fall will encounter a weeping woman with a deep-fried floral arrangement for a head, larger-than-life perfume bottles brimming with eyeball-enlarging contact lenses, and paintings made of soap that examine the human body on a molecular level. All of these artworks are part of Anicka Yi’s first solo museum exhibition, hosted by the Cleveland Museum of Art, beginning Saturday, October 11.

The Hank Willis Thomas exhibition is on view simultaneously at the Cleveland Museum of Art through Sunday, March 9, 2014 and at the Transformer Station through Saturday, March 8, 2014. In their final days before closing, we caught up with the artist himself to talk about some of the works in the shows.

Fred Frith is a songwriter, composer, improviser, and multi-instrumentalist. He learned his craft as both improviser and composer playing in rock bands, notably Henry Cow, and creating music in the recording studio. He performs in Cleveland on Friday, February 28. The event is part of the CMA Concerts at Transformer Station series, which strives to showcase eclectic and adventurous music from around the world in the Hingetown arts venue.

Multimedia artist Camille Norment's current trajectory of work includes live performance as a mode of exploring the formal and cultural consonances and dissonances in music, freely collapsing any given genre and aesthetic spectrums. She performs with her trio as part of the CMA Concerts at Transformer Station series on Sunday, December 15.

The Cleveland Museum of Art is proud to welcome electronic artist Mark Fell to Transformer Station on Wednesday, November 13 as part of the CMA Concerts at Transformer Station series. The concert series aims at showcasing eclectic and adventurous music in the Hingetown arts venue.
