5 Steps to Look Closer with ArtLens 2.0
Want to learn more about your favorite piece in the CMA's collection? There's an app for that!
Available for FREE for iOS and Android devices, ArtLens 2.0, an enhanced version of the CMA’s award-winning collection app, combines innovative tech with a wealth of interpretive content, making for a must-have digital companion to the CMA’s world-class collection. Also, as phone space is at a premium, we made sure that the app downloads in less than a minute, and takes up minimal space—it’s the same size as Facebook and Snapchat. Use ArtLens to explore the museum, delve deeper into the collection, and look more closely at works of art.
See below for 5 ways to look closer at the CMA's collection with ArtLens 2.0:
SEARCH: Looking for an artist or artwork? Search by artist name or keyword to be shown corresponding works currently on view, including their location and related artworks. Select the gallery number and ArtLens will guide you to exactly where an artwork is located. From here you can also favorite and save the artwork to your device to look at later.
EXPLORE: Navigate your way through every gallery in the museum using ArtLens’s state-of-the-art wayfinding capabilities. Select Galleries, then select the Find Me icon in the lower right corner; make sure it turns blue.
LEARN: Locate yourself on the map to be shown every work of art in your current gallery. Select an artwork to favorite it, learn more, or access additional multimedia content, indicated by the headphones or ArtLens aperture icons on an artwork’s label.
CREATE: Create a personalized tour of the museum using artworks you have saved to ArtLens. Compile and name your tour, and the ArtLens mapping feature will guide you around the museum with ease. Choose from your own tours, visitor-created tours, or museum-curated tours.
CONNECT: Use Bluetooth to connect ArtLens to the interactive Collection Wall to explore everything on view at the museum and to save artworks from the Collection Wall directly to your device.
ArtLens 2.0 is available to download for free from the iTunes App Store or Google Play Store, on iPads or iPhones running iOS9 or higher or an Android device (4.4+). Once ArtLens is downloaded, simply launch the app. If ArtLens was downloaded prior to May 25, 2016, users must update the app.
