About The Event

"The virtuosity on display was arresting-Karttunen [is] perhaps the most impressive cellist on the scene today." -Los Angeles Times

The brilliant Finnish cellist Anssi Karttunen has mastered the standard cello repertoire and expanded it both in his guest appearances with the finest orchestras in the world and in giving premieres of works by such notable composers as Kaija Saariaho, Magnus Lindberg, and Tan Dun. Karttunen has also discovered many forgotten masterpieces and arranged a number of pieces for cello. His Cleveland debut will be a program of solo classics after which Kartunnen will be joined by I Cellisti, the octet of the Cleveland Cello Society, in performances of rare and beautiful ensemble pieces. $29, CMA members $28.

These programs made possible in part by the Ernest L. and Louise M. Gartner Fund, the P. J. McMyler Musical Endowment Fund, and the Anton and Rose Zverina Music Fund. Additional support has been provided by the Musart Society and the John P. Murphy Foundation. Media sponsors are WVIZ/PBS and 90.3 WCPN ideastream and WCLV 104.9 Classical FM.
