About The Event
This evening’s Chamber Music in the Atrium concert features Tejas Nair, a composer and esraj player with roots in Indian classical music. His music combines Western counterpoint and classical form with the ragas and talas of the East. Tejas trained as an esraj player from a young age under Hasu Patel, a disciple of Ustad Vilayat Khan, and studies konnakol, the South Indian tradition of spoken rhythms, under mridangam virtuoso Praveen Sparsh. He often composes for mixed ensembles featuring Indian and Western classical musicians. Tejas has found inspiration in the aesthetics of Kushan and Gandhara sculpture, which are represented extensively in the CMA’s permanent collection.
