About The Event
Drawn from the museum’s superb holdings of 19th-century French photography, France in the Time of Manet and Morisot allows us to be eyewitnesses to the tumultuous yet fertile period in France during the birth of Impressionism.
The second half of the 19th century in France saw the rise of industrialization, which led to a shift from rural to urban living, spurring the growth of trade and tourism and strengthening a sense of a national identity. These transformations coincided with the birth and rise of a new medium—photography—that chronicled these vast social, political, and cultural changes and many aspects of daily life.
Join Dr. Tannenbaum to learn about the role photographs played in recording this fascinating period in French history.
