Curator Tour of “Epic of the Northwest Himalayas”

Following the Dr. Ranajit K. Datta Distinguished Lecture in Indian Art, join George P. Bickford Curator of Indian and Southeast Asian Art Sonya Rhie Mace on an exclusive tour for the Asian Art Society.

The tour focuses on Epic of the Northwest Himalayas: Pahari Paintings from the “‘Shangri’ Ramayana,” an exhibition that reunites a widely dispersed pictorial series presenting the story of the Hindu divine hero Rama. Potent themes of righteousness, vengeance, and loyalty are explored through dramatic episodes in which demons are vanquished, lovers are separated, and monkeys, bears, and a man-eagle save the day.
