Lunchtime Lecture: Medieval Treasures from Münster Cathedral

Speaker:

Gerhard Lutz, Robert P. Bergman Curator of Medieval Art

Tuesday, December 7, 12:00 p.m.
Gartner Auditorium

Come to the CMA for a quick bite of art history. Every first Tuesday of each month, join curators, scholars, and other museum staff for 30-minute talks on objects currently on display in the museum galleries.

In this talk, Gerhard Lutz, Robert P. Bergman Curator of Medieval Art, introduces visitors to rare art objects from the Cathedral of Saint Paul in Münster, in northwestern Germany, including several reliquaries currently on view in the CMA exhibition Medieval Treasures from Münster Cathedral. Join us as Lutz discusses the broader contexts of these artworks beyond Europe and how relic collections and reliquaries held spiritual power and political weight for medieval Christians.
