Genre-bending electric violinist and vocal master L. Shankar performs at the Cleveland Museum of Art as part of a rare Midwest tour.

L. Shankar (a.k.a. Shenkar and Shankar) is widely considered a living legend, a pioneer, and a musical genius by his peers. A virtuosic vocalist, violinist, composer, and record producer, L. Shankar has sold more than 100 million albums through his solo projects and collaborations with superstar musicians throughout the world. In addition, L. Shankar designed his own instrument, a ten-string stereophonic double violin, built by Ken Parker, that covers the entire range of the orchestra.

L. Shankar has performed with numerous groups, including Shakti, which featured John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain, and Vikku Vinayakram. As an ECM artist, he recorded eight world music albums and toured with Jan Garbarek, Kenny Wheeler, Don Cherry, Ed Blackwell, and Trilok Gurtu.

He has also released classical, pop, rock, and electronic dance music hit albums featuring guest artists, such as Frank Zappa, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, John Waite, Stewart Copeland (The Police), Ginger Baker, Toto, Jonathan Davis (Korn), and Patrick Leonard (Madonna).

His music can be heard in films, including Queen of the Damned, Ali, Jennifer 8, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Jacob’s Ladder.
