Adult (Ages 14+) Virtual Workshop

Interpreting Monet in Watercolor
Thursday, May 13, 2021, 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Registration closes, Friday, May 7.

In this virtual workshop, the artwork from the CMA’s collection participants will reference is Spring Flowers by Claude Monet. The goal of the workshop will be to take a flower segment of this painting and use it as a reference for painting a watercolor. By viewing the highlights and shadows, participants will create their own spring flower.

A photo reference will be emailed to participants ahead of class so they can either draw or trace the image onto watercolor paper in advance. Then, at the beginning of the workshop, the instructor will explain how observing Monet's brushstrokes and color variations can help to create a beautiful flower in watercolor. The ability to see shapes and shadows and highlights will help the painting look real.

Participants must provide their own supplies. See supply list. Class is conducted via Zoom. Participants must have access to a smart device (phone, tablet, desktop) with internet access.
