Virtual Studio Programs for Teens and Adults

The Cleveland Museum of Art’s studio series for teens and adults has transitioned to a new virtual platform. Explore a diverse range of topics and materials under the guidance of experienced teaching artists while connecting with the CMA’s collection in new ways. Learn a new skill or revisit an old practice! Register with friends, family, and colleagues for a fun, collaborative virtual experience.

After registering, you will receive an email confirmation with additional instructions. You will not receive a Zoom meeting link in the email confirmation. For questions about registration, please call 216-421-7350.

  • One hour before the virtual class or workshop is scheduled to begin, a Zoom meeting link will be sent to your registered email.

  • Participants are responsible for purchasing their own supplies for the virtual class or workshop.

Adult Virtual Workshop (Ages 16+)
Painting a Watercolor of an Anemone by Fabergé
Thursday, November 4, 2021, 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Paint a watercolor of a lovely, delicate, single flower with leaves in a glass vase with shadow. The photo reference is Flower Study of an Anemone by Henrik Wigstrom, House of Fabergé, from the Cleveland Museum of Art’s collection.  

Participants must provide their own supplies. See recommended supply list. Class is conducted via Zoom. Participants must have access to a smart device (phone, tablet, desktop) with internet access.

Adult Virtual Workshop (Ages 16+)
Watercolor Stained Glass Painting
Thursday, November 18, 2021, 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Registration closes Thursday, November 11.
 
Participants learn how watercolor works by painting a watercolor that looks like a stained glass design. A design will be emailed to participants to trace onto their watercolor paper prior to class. In the process, participants also learn about mixing colors, the lifting-out technique, and working light to dark.

Participants must provide their own supplies. See recommended supply list. Class is conducted via Zoom. Participants must have access to a smart device (phone, tablet, desktop) with internet access.

Adult Virtual Workshop (Ages 16+)
Toned Paper Portrait
Thursday, December 2, 2021, 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Registration closes Friday, November 26.

Using a Rembrandt van Rijn self-portrait etching as a model, participants create a tonal drawing observing lights and darks. Participants tone the paper using graphite and remove areas of graphite with a kneaded eraser to create the lights of the drawing.
