About The Event
For almost 50 years, Pintoricchio’s Virgin and Child (c. 1490–1500) was in storage at the CMA, its last original layers of blue paint hidden beneath a mask of restoration treatments undertaken in the 1900s. Although considered one of the most significant paintings in the early Italian collection, its complicated restoration history and physical state rendered it unexhibitable. Through a first-of-its-kind digital innovation and conservation experience never before seen at any museum, visitors can walk through and explore the layers of the painting, revealing the materials and techniques used to preserve it.
Join the Painting and Drawing Society for an exclusive talk with Jane Alexander, chief digital information officer, and Julianna Ly, associate conservator of paintings, as they discuss the painting’s completed treatment and the development of the CMA’s new cutting-edge immersive gallery experience. The talk is followed by a tour of the exhibition and a reception.
This program is for members of the Painting and Drawing Society. Eligible members receive an invitation via email.
