The Valois Tapestries: From Brussels to Cleveland (via Paris and Florence), A Panel Discussion

On view for the first time in North America, the recently restored Valois Tapestries, a unique set of 16th-century hangings, are unveiled at the CMA. The wall-sized tapestries were commissioned by Catherine de’ Medici, queen mother of France, to celebrate the lavish entertainments of the French court. Joining us from Florence, Italy, are textile conservators Claudia Beyer and Costanza Perrone Da Zara, who discuss the lengthy process of restoring the tapestries. Tapestry expert and exhibition co-curator Elizabeth Cleland (associate curator, Metropolitan Museum of Art) explores the significance of the Valois Tapestries in the art and culture of their time.
