ADULT WORKSHOPS

Workshop Wednesday: Drag Queen Life Drawing: Wednesday, March 4, 6:00–8:30 p.m.
Enjoy a twist on a classic. Practice your drawing muscles with drag queens as your muse. Enjoy the challenge of recreating dramatic makeup looks, larger than life hairstyles, and shiny or sequined costumes. It won’t be easy, but it will be fun!
Instructor: Cassie Harner. $50, CMA members $40.

All-Day Workshop: Ikebana Flower Arranging: Saturday, March 14, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Create modern abstract floral designs by using traditional Japanese principles of flower arranging. This art emphasizes shape, line, and form.
Instructor: Isa Ranganathan. $100, CMA members $85.

Workshop Wednesday: Conté Pastel Drawing: Wednesday, April 1, 6:00–8:30 p.m.
Compare European and Asian art techniques in the galleries and interpret Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, using colored conté pastel on sanded paper, and mimic rhythmic Asian brushwork, using graphite.
Instructor: Susan Gray Bé. $50, CMA Members $40.

Workshop Wednesday: Watercolor Discovery: Wednesday, April 29, 6:00-8:30 p.m.
Play with watercolor and learn about this unique, transparent medium. Experiment with color mixing, watercolor washes, and the way paint and water work together to create interesting effects and textures.

Junk Shop Jewelry: Wednesday, February 26, 6:00–8:30 p.m.
Learn how to turn anything into jewelry, from toys to leftover costume jewelry. Mix and match objects to create one-of-a-kind earrings or necklaces.
Instructor: Haley Morris. $50, CMA Members $40.

Reverse-Engineered Ceramics: Wednesday, March 11, 6:00–8:30 p.m.
Use stamps and other found objects to draw and make impressions in clay, then ink the designs and print them onto paper. Students should expect to experiment and play to find unique and interesting results. 
Instructor: Laura Ferrando. $50, CMA Members $40.

Encaustic: Wednesday, April 8, 6:00–8:30 p.m.
This workshop introduces the history of the encaustic technique, the ancient art of painting with molten beeswax. Learn a variety of techniques, including how to build layers of pigmented wax and to fuse, embed, and collage objects.

FRIDAY NIGHT MINIS*

Four-week mini-session workshops for the whole family to enjoy. Adults without children are welcome to attend!

Screen Printing: Four Fridays, March 20 – April 17, 6:30–8:30 p.m. (No class April 10)
Learn the basics of screen printing, along with some simple layering techniques. The flow will focus on the process of screen printing and developing a project inspired by the museum collection.
Instructor: Julie Schabel. $140, CMA members $120.

Block Printing on Clay: Four Fridays, April 24 - May 15, 6:30–8:30 p.m. (No class April 10)
This class will combine basic ceramic hand-building techniques with printmaking, to guide you through making original works of functional art with unique and interesting surfaces.  You will design and carve your own printing blocks and then use those to create both relief and printed design on your pieces.
Instructor: Laura Ferrando. $140, CMA members $120.

 

*PLEASE NOTE: All-Ages Workshops are an in-depth studio experience. Children under 14 must take the class with a registered adult to help translate instructions and offer guidance with the use of adult tools. All children must be at least 8 years old. Adults without children are welcome to attend!

Registration is first-come, first-served. Most classes are limited to 16 participants. If minimum enrollment is not met one week before the workshop or first workshop in the series, the workshop or workshop series will be canceled and all enrolled participants will be notified; no further registrations will be accepted to reinstate the class. Supply lists and class syllabi are provided within one week of the first class date unless otherwise noted. High schoolers may enroll in adult classes with guardian permission.
