Gods and Heroes of the Maya

In these teacher materials, students will learn about myths and stories of the Maya civilization and how the Maya used art to transmit cultural ideas by examining the museum’s Mesoamerican collection. Students will also understand how modern scholars piece together Maya history by studying these works of art. The Maya creation story, which includes the tales of the Hero Twins and the great Maya ballgame, will be the primary focus of the lesson.
