Originally this helmet was topped with a feathered plume. The Swiss Guard, a regiment of soldiers that has guarded the Vatican since the 16th century, wear similar looking peaked morions today, though theirs are adorned with voluminous ostrich feather plumes.- Frank Gair Macomber; Boston; cat. #421.
