Scarf

early 1900s
Location: Not on view

Description

An Algerian weaver used alternating red and white silk wraps and wefts (vertical and horizontal threads) to create a checkerboard pattern of deep reds, solid white, and light pink sections on this textile. The central portion is woven of a different material, potentially linen. An embroiderer used large amounts of flat metal strips to create floral designs that shimmer brightly.
