A gold ring features a thick band decorated with high-relief motifs. A triangular cluster of three faceted dark red garnets, framed by tiny gold beads, sits among scrolling vines with spiraling ends. To the right, a three-lobed leaf filled with light blue enamel is nestled against a dark, recessed background. Thin gold borders line the top and bottom edges of the band.

Did You Know?

Garnets were very popular in jewelry of the mid-19th century.

Description

Although this ring was made in the late Renaissance style featuring rough-cut gemstones, the trailing vines and the popularity of revival styles in the mid-19th century suggest that it was made in the later period.
