Ichikawa Ebizo III as Yanone Goro in Nenriki arahitogami
1758
Location: not on view
Description
Yanone (The Arrowhead) was one of the most famous plays in the Ichikawa Danjuro family repertoire. Goro, the hero of the play, sharpens arrowheads as a friend comes to wish him a happy New Year. Corny jokes and the sight of Goro in flamboyant clothing made the play very popular.- Jacquin Collection (sale: Walpole Galleries, January 20, 1921, lot 13)(Yamanaka & Co.)
