Print in black ink on beige paper of a market crowded with people, a central figure with a basket over their right arm stepping forward and looking to their side at another figure, the back of which we can see sitting in the lower right corner. Behind the central figure, two small animals face off with a larger crowd, some in top-hats and one in a bonnet, behind. Brief lines suggest stalls in the background.

Description

Pissarro probably learned the technique of monotype from his friend Edgar Degas. Although it allowed him to work in a spontaneous and expressive way, the medium never played a significant role in his work.
