Description

Richard Strauss had one of the longest careers of any composer who ever lived: his earliest works date from his childhood, his last from more than 70 years later. Before his 30th birthday he was a world-renowned enfant terrible, his gorgeously orchestrated symphonic poems infuriating and delighting audiences in equal measure. In old age, he produced the rapturous Four Last Songs, among the greatest song cycles since those of Franz Schubert.
