Description

A Precisionist, Sheeler was only briefly involved with pastel in 1923–24. He utilized the medium for still lifes in which the individual forms are meticulously outlined. In this quintessentially modernist composition, color is used with the utmost restraint, and the overall effect is draftsmanly rather than painterly.
