Description
In his youth, Bellows loved to play baseball and basketball, but as he aged his preference for physical recreation shifted to tennis, a sport deemed particularly apt for a gentleman of his increased social standing. Indeed, a degree of prestige accompanied tennis during the early 20th century, as it was typically played at exclusive private clubs.- Stag at Sharkey’s: George Bellows and the Art of Sports.
