A circular silver medal depicts a stylized dog sitting on a ledge, peering down at its reflection in water. The dog holds a bone in its jaws. Raised capital letters border the rim, reading "LOSE NOT THE SUBSTANCE FOR THE SHADOW." Small text at the bottom right reads "E. AMATEIS." The matte surface features soft highlights on the low-relief figures and ripples below the ledge.
