A circular bronze medal with a warm, golden tone depicts a polar bear standing on a rocky outcrop. The bear tilts its head toward two birds flying in profile. Above the bear, the word ARCTIC is centered. Along the rim, the names GREELY, BARTLETT, PEARY, and BYRD are separated by five-pointed stars. Fragmented ice floes and mountains appear in the lower right.
