A bronze medal with a warm, polished golden-brown surface features four penguins in relief standing on textured ground. A taller penguin at the center back overlooks three others. Raised block letters curve along the upper border reading PALMER * WILKES * BYRD * ELLSWORTH. At the base, ANTARCTIC is inscribed above small initials E.F.J. and a copyright symbol. Darker recessed areas emphasize the figures and text against the metallic sheen.
