A circular bronze medal depicts four penguins in relief on a jagged ledge. Three face right, while one looks left. Arcing along the upper rim, the names "PALMER," "WILKES," "BYRD," and "ELLSWORTH" appear in raised block letters separated by stars. "ANTARCTIC" sits at the base. A dark patina settles in the deep contours, while light glints off the smooth, warm metallic surfaces of the birds and lettering.
